Statement as of 3:06 am CST on December 17, 2016
... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 am CST
Sunday...
... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 6 am Sunday to
10 am CST Monday...
* timing... there is slight chance of freezing drizzle early this
morning. Snow will develop early this evening and end overnight
tonight. Blowing and drifting snow is expected tonight. Wind
chills of 20 to possibly briefly lower than 30 below are
expected late tonight through Monday morning.
* Accumulations... snow of 1 to 4 inches is likely tonight... with
the highest amounts north of I-88 and I-290.
* Other impacts... northwest winds gusting over 30 mph tonight will
cause blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibilities making
travel very hazardous in open areas.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means that
visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and
blowing snow. Use caution when traveling in open areas. Be
prepared for snow covered roads.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in
frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
If you must venture outdoors... make sure you wear a hat and
gloves.
