North Side burglaries prompt community alert
Police are warning residents of burglaries on the North Side in the last few weeks.
In each burglary, people have entered the home through windows or doors and stolen electronics, jewelry, cash and other items, according to the alert from Chicago Police.
The burglaries happened:
• about 3 p.m. Jan. 14 in the 5800 block of North Medina
• between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. Jan. 26 in the 5400 block of North Mulligan
• between 4 p.m. Feb. 1 and 1 a.m. Feb. 2 in the 4800 block of North Mulligan
• between 9 a.m. and 4:37 p.m. Feb. 2 in the 5500 block of North Melvina
• between 12:30 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. Feb. 2 in the 6200 block of W. Gregory

Metra train struck by lightning on North Side
NORTH SIDE, CHICAGO -- A Metra train on the Union Pacific North Line was struck by lightning Tuesday morning in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side.
Outbound train No. 309, scheduled to arrive in Kenosha at 8:18 a.m., was stopped shortly before 7:30 a.m. when it was struck by lightning, causing a mechanical failure near the Rogers Park Station, 7000 N. Ravenswood Ave., according to an alert from Metra.
Metra spokesman Tom Miller said no injuries were reported.
Robbers with knives strike six times in Chicago's North Side
LINCOLN PARK -- Robbers armed with knives struck at least six times in just over an hour Monday afternoon on Chicago’s North Side, according to police.
Among the victims in the crime spree was a group of eighth-grade boys held at knifepoint near Wrightwood and Greenview Avenues in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
The suspects demanded the boys’ cellphones before taking off in a dark car, police said.
